Hummingbird, which bills itself as ‘a fantasy
escape’, is a sprawling bar, restaurant and
venue situated on Glasgow’s Bath Street. This
expansive venue also manages to squeeze in
a nightclub and a selection of party pods and
‘secret corners to discover’, laid out across
four floors. The Main Bar is a friendly spot in
which to enjoy a cold beer or a cocktail during
the week. The Mezzanine, overlooking the main
bar, is the trendiest place to be seen within this
opulent venue. For those who fancy partying it
up in style, Penthouse is fittingly located on the
top floor. With its pool table, cocktail bar and DJ
desk, it’s the perfect spot for private parties, art
exhibitions and fashion shows. With the Glitter
Room, Studio and Posh Room also clamouring
for your attention, you’ll certainly not be short of
things to do in Hummingbird.

A traditional pub with character in spades,
Rhoderick Dhu lies on Waterloo Street, in the
very centre of Glasgow. It’s an unpretentious
drinking den, one where the food is served
on plates as opposed to slates, and where
the decor is distinctly authentic. Dark wood
panelling is the order of the day, while a
courtyard provides a place to congregate when
the weather permits. Live sports are shown on
the big screens, and the place fairly fills up on
match nights. Thanks to its location, Rhoderick
Dhu attracts its share of commuters looking
to catch a jar or kill time before catching
a train from the adjacent Central Station.
Office workers are also prone to popping in at
lunchtime for a bite. The food is fairly priced
and comprises hearty pub grub. Jump in on a
weekend for some live music while you knock
back a pint of Belhaven Best.
