DRUM & MONKEY
Tel. 0141 221 6636
91 St. Vincent Street, Glasgow, G2 5TF
Drum & Monkey is a revered Glasgow pub, typified by
its flamboyant 1920s atmosphere and nod to opulent
days of yore. Nestled on Vincent Street in the heart
of the city, the pub dispenses a giddying selection of
real ales as well as an array of accomplished dishes
that are infinitely satisfying. The air of grandeur that
would have pervaded this former bank can still be
sensed, with gilt-framed paintings, polished brass
and rich, dark wood everywhere you turn. Owned
by Nicholson’s, who are renowned for their collection
of unusual British pubs, Drum & Monkey certainly
fits the bill. If the busy, chattering bar gets too much,
patrons can retreat to the slightly more sedate lounge
and dining area. Here, seasonal dishes such as
Scottish Salmon en Croute are served up along with a
selection of more traditional fare. Popular for parties,
events and celebrations, Drum & Monkey is positively
alive at weekends as locals and tourists alike indulge
in some serious banter and drinking.

If you like your nights out as upbeat and
dynamic as possible, Kitty O’Shea’s is where
it’s at. The live venue is a hive of activity most
nights of the week, but weekends are naturally
when the party goes into overdrive. Stroll past
the Irish pub and venue on any given evening
and you’re liable to hear anything from folk to
hard rock emanating from its stage courtesy of
whatever band is taking their turn to strut their
stuff. The decor is traditional, with dark wood
everywhere and vintage light fixtures, some of
which were allegedly repurposed from an old
pig farm. On football nights, especially when
Celtic are on their European travels, the music
takes a backseat to sport, but whatever the
occasion you’re sure of a warm welcome and a
rowdy but good-natured night in this lively Irish
bar. Have a drink or three and enjoy the craic.
