Over 100 years in business!
The University Cafe is – no surprise – something
of a student favourite. And it’s not just current
students who flock to the Byres Road cafe either:
many of its regulars are city professionals who
picked up the habit in their student days and
have been returning ever since. The University
Cafe has a certain something about it, a vibe
you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in
the West End. While the rest of the city seems
intent on reinventing itself, The University Cafe
has remained resolutely unchanged. The food,
which falls firmly into the comfort category, is
served with no airs and graces: this is hearty,
stomach-warming fare, be it a full fry-up or a
poke of proper chippy chips. With almost 100
years of business to its name, no one would bet
against The University Cafe still being here a
century from now.

The Woods Bar which can be found on
Waterloo Street, close to Central Station.
Inside the spacious pub, the chic minimalist
decor and upbeat vibe make it the sort of
place for lounging during the day and mingling
at night. The bar can get busy on an evening,
especially once the resident DJs plug in or
live band pitch up. Signature cocktails are
zingy and inventive and the wine list is varied
and full of some wee gems. When the light
fades, the candle-lit courtyard is the place to
be. Alternatively, find a booth near the bar if
you can and take the chance to catch up with
a few mates while you take turns getting the
drinks in. The bar is a popular haunt for office
parties and private events including private
dining. Head on over to catch a cold one and a
satisfying meal any day of the week.
