If you like international cuisine and you
particularly like it in unlimited quantities, pull
up a seat at TOPS. The restaurant, situated on
Portland Street, is prized for its all-you-can-eat
buffet that lives up to its name. It’s about more
than just quantity though: the real clincher is
the food itself, sourced and inspired from Asia,
Europe and every other corner of the globe
possessed with a culinary pedigree. Food from
the Far East features prominently: Chinese,
Thai and Indian are all staples of the TOPS
experience. It all starts with lunch, served from
12pm-3:30pm Monday to Thursday, and till later
Friday to Sunday. Think of a favourite dish and
odds are you’ll find it here: sushi, barbecued
skewers, curry, naan, wings, noodles, stir fry,
soup and Italian pizza. The Italian section also
boasts a number of freshly made salads, pasta
and potatoes. A carvery features Cantonese-
style roast duck and honey spare ribs served
with your choice of sauce, while the dim sum
section includes such Chinese favourites as
steamed pork dumpling and custard bun. The
wealth of options can be overwhelming, but if
you can’t stack everything you fancy on your
plate, you can make amends when you return
for seconds and thirds. One thing’s for sure:
you won’t leave here hungry. The dinner menu
augments the lunchtime feast with a host of
mouth-watering extras: Japanese teppanyaki,
a chocolate fountain, cakes and dessert of all
kinds. Good luck in picking between a dozen
delicious cakes, unpteen indulgent mousses
and jelly galore. A rewards scheme allows
regular diners to notch up the points – points
that can be redeemed against a free meal.
Students are also amply rewarded, with a 15%
discount off regular restaurant prices.
