Passorn is a popular Thai restaurant that’s
received a string of awards over the years. Its
Brougham Street premises serves up authentic
Thai cuisine combined with fresh Scottish produce,
complemented by a selection of imported Asian
herbs and vegetables. The unusual name of the
restaurant incidentally comes from the Thai word
for angel. That’ll explain the halo that appears in
the restaurant’s logo then. The food that’s served
up inside the chic Brougham Street premises is
firmly contemporary, though there’s also room on
the menu for a few favourites that have stood the
test of time. The a la carte menu features such
dishes as Kaeng Massaman, made with braised
lamb shank and served in a rich and creamy
sauce. The restaurant’s signature Angel Curry,
made with marinated 80z sirloin steak, is also a
highlight amidst a distinctive menu that’s hardly
short of highlights. It’s all good here.

Dusit was opened in 2002 by Pom and his team, to
great accolades in the press. The restaurant layout
is spacious; with low lighting, extravagant gold
wallpaper and artwork from Bangkok. It is striking
and contemporary but the seafood is still the star of
the show. Modelled on the dishes of south Thailand,
a firm favourite is old-fashioned red curries like
medium spicy gaeng phet with king prawns,
aubergine, bamboo shoots, fresh chillis and sweet
basil. Other popular choices are Bangkok duck, the
house special of crispy meat on a bed of steamed
Chinese broccoli. With a focus on the freshest
ingredients and a good track record in catering
for special dietary requirements, Dusit delivers
trustworthy spicy food. This has led to Dusit being
recognised as one of the top Thai restaurants in the
country. Dusit consistently receives great reviews
and has been awarded much coveted Ticks in Pete
Irvine’s authoritative book, Scotland the Best.
