Red Onion does Scottish cuisine in a
contemporary setting, but that doesn’t even
begin to describe the lure of this wee gem of
a restaurant. The award-winning eatery is the
brainchild of chef and proprietor John Quigley,
who made a name for himself in London’s West
End before going on to work as a private chef for
stars like Bryan Adams and Guns N Roses. Now
he’s settled into Glasgow, where his culinary
skills are eagerly lapped up by the expectant
diners who flock to Red Onion on an evening.
The restaurant, which is open from 12pm every
day of the week, specialises in grilled steaks,
cooked to perfection to preserve all their natural
flavour, as well as seared scallops and indulgent
desserts. The presentation is spectacular, with
each perfectly formed dish encapsulating a little
piece of Scotland at its very best.
BREAD MEATS BREAD
104 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, G2 5UB

Glasgow loves a good burger, and it doesn’t get
much better than the gourmet offerings to be
found at Bread Meats Bread. This growing burger
brand doesn’t have the largest of premises on St
Vincent Street but it’s made every square metre
of it count. Diners can kick back and get comfy
while they watch the hubbub of the city flashing
by outside. You’d hope that Bread Meats Bread
would do a mean burger and those hopes would
be met and indeed exceeded, whether tucking
into their Classic Burger, Pastrami Burger or Wolf
of St Vincent Street, made with American cheese,
crispy bacon and pulled pork in BBQ sauce.
There’s more to Bread Meats Bread than burgers
though: you’ve also got a range of sandwiches
to choose from plus veggie and vegan options.
The milkshakes are also outrageously good. For
purveyors of good burgers, Bread Meats Bread
has got it made.
